Negative Y/N questions.
A) nigingngilâng ‘Isn’t she (or he) eating?’
A) is a negative yes/no question and the following only applies to this type of questions.
In English we would answer the question in A) either by:
B) Yes, she is eating.
C) No, she isn’t eating.
BUT in Inuktitut (like Japanese, Korean and Uzbek)
the parallel answers to B) and C) above are:
B) auka nigijuk (No, she’s eating)
C) â nigingngituk (Yes, she’s not eating)
Remember: this difference only applies to negative yes/no questions
