Inolivisiutsiagit!

Happy Birthday! If it is your birthday.

InoviasiutsialâkKusi   means “Merry Christmas”

Thanks to Joan Dicker for giving me the words to say this.

What’s interesting about these examples is that they contain ino- to do with life or birth – which makes sense when you think of it.

They both also contain the postbase

siu

Inolivisiutsiagit

InoviasiutsialâkKutit

Normally we see siu meaning ‘look for something’ but when it is attached to occasions or events it means ‘experience’ and combined wth tsia ‘good/well’ it means to have a good experience (almost like celebrate).

If anyone has some Inuttitut to post or some questions about Inuttitut I can try to answer they should email me at: ajohns@chass.utoronto.ca         Alana
